Sheet Metal Surface Finishing

Specialist Sheet Metal Surface Finishing

F-Tech Precision Engineering offers a comprehensive range of finishing techniques and surface finishes for sheet metal components.

Each finishing requirement is different and may be dictated by the end-use applications of each sector, working environment or aesthetic considerations.

F-Tech have vast experience and control in the following techniques:

Linishing, Cleaning & Graining

Linishing and fettling of welds is a specialised skill that makes them impenetrable, producing a high level of finish that prepares the component for surface treatments.

With our range of Timesaver linishing and polishing machines, we can apply rounded edge finishes and various grained surfaces on flat sheet to specific customer requirements.

Powder Coating

Powder coating is a dry coating process that can be used in sheet metal finishing.

The coating is applied to the sheet metal component as dry powder through an electrostatic process, then cured with heat, giving a high-quality aesthetic finish, good functionality and excellent durability.

Wet Spray Services

Wet spray finishing involves the application of an even layer of paint to a thickness of 15 to 20 micrometres to a sheet metal component.

Prior to spraying, the component must be cleaned and prepared to ensure a high-quality finish.

Wet spraying is a quick and cost-effective process which can be used on a range of sheet metal materials in applications where heat treatment cannot be used.

Anodizing Services

Anodizing is an electrochemical process which is applied to the surface of a metal component where a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant and anodic oxide finish is needed.

It is ideal for use on aluminium components but can also be used on other non-ferrous metals.

SurTec 650

SurTec 650 is a passivation process based on non-toxic trivalent chromium that is commonly used to provide a corrosion-resistant finish to a component prior to painting.

It is suitable for sheet metal components requiring low surface resistance and high corrosion resistance, and delivers an aesthetically pleasing silver finish, whilst leaving the part with electrical conductivity properties.

Silk Screening

In screen printing a mesh is used to transfer ink onto the metal substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil.

Silk screening can be applied to bare sheet metal finishes as well as to powder coated and wet sprayed finishes.

Unlike many other sheet metal finishing techniques, silk screening is used only for decorative and aesthetic purposes and is ideal for printing numbering and lettering onto finished metal components.
